SUMMARY:Repacking Our Bags: Moving Ahead with Purpose
DESCRIPTION:Even before the last 15 months of upheaval and unrest\, educators were carrying a heavy load of required content and standards. But over the last 15 months\, we were forced to add even more techniques\, approaches\, and content to our proverbial backpacks. As we head into summer\, it’s time to dump everything onto the ground and repack for the journey ahead. What parts of school and our teaching will we leave behind forever? What new things will we carry forward?\n\nIn this webinar\, we will reflect on these questions as we explore this moment as a potent turning point for schools and teachers. Our world is changing and it’s clear that our schools need to also change\, but how? Over the last 12 months\, the cracks in our system were blown wide open and schools were forced to pay more attention than ever to social emotional learning\, equity\, connection and community engagement.\n\nPurpose Learning is an age-old framework of learning grounded in the ideas of John Dewey and others that envisions learning as thinking\, feeling\, and doing. At the intersection of these three domains\, students have a better chance of connecting with the purpose in learning — and exploring who they are and how then to connect to the world. We will explore how Purpose Learning is more relevant than ever for the ways in which school is changing and how it can serve as a useful road map for the future. We will explore what purpose is\, how it helps students\, and what next steps we teachers can take to foster it in our students. \n\nMay 13\, 2021\n6PM-7PM\nRoss WehnerFounder\, World Leadership School\nSign up here!

SUMMARY:Becoming (and Remaining) a Learning System in Challenging Times (Part 3)
DESCRIPTION:With Fred Brown: Learning Forward’s deputy executive director\n\nAs we step forward into rapidly unfolding changes generated by COVID 19\, educators are being challenged to think more flexibly\, adaptively and creatively than ever before. Sometimes it can be hard to maintain a growth and innovator’s mindset while managing the barrage of change. Learning Forward Colorado is committed to learning with you.\n\nWe know that one of the most challenging moments in any organization is when change occurs. Individuals often have varied responses\, ranging from innovation to resistance. Effective leaders consider the magnitude and implications of the changes and support their teachers and school leaders as they move through the change process.\n\nDistrict educational systems must “learn” quickly to assist principals\, school-based teams\, and individual classroom teachers as they work to change their professional practices. Districts must also develop procedures and practices that help them navigate the ever-changing educational landscape\, allowing change to become a regular part of their work. In essence\, it’s important that school districts see themselves as “learning systems.”\n\n\nSession participants will:\n\nIdentify key attributes of a learning system and ways to strengthen teaching and learning;\nUnderstand key roles in the district in leading\, modelling\, and facilitating learning; and\nExplore the change process and develop and implement strategies to manage first- and second-order change.\n\n\nWorried about missing one of the sessions? We’ve got you covered! All sessions will be recorded and shared with participants along with any resources discussed during the session. \n  \nApply the time spent watching\, participating\, and applying the content of Learning Forward Colorado webinars and the Summer Virtual Institute towards graduate-level credit through Dominican University’s EDUX 9983! (Registration for the course is required for credit.)
